Something to keep in mind... I did have a nice big description of Sesshy, but it's GONE! G-O-N-E GONE! I can't find it on the original site. It's odd and vexing. Probably another evil freewebs thingamajig. I'll definitely be able to come up with another that'll be just as good but it's going to take me a while, as it's summer, and I have gotten very lazy. Plus I need to handle all the sitey moving stuffs. And did I mention I'm lazy. Go to bed at 12 am, sleep til noon and refuse to get up at 7 am! Ohohohohoho...

 About Our Youkai

You don't know about Sesshoumaru??? Well, I'll help you out! It would be a real real shame for anyone to go on not knowing about Sesshomaru any longer than they have to...

Sesshoumaru's Name

Ok, so his name is Sesshoumaru. Enough said, right? WRONG! Sesshomaru's name is VERY important, in a way. Sort of like InuYasha's means Dog Demon. Also, there are a few ways to spell it. I want to get these all clear.

The many spellings of Sesshoumaru: The first spelling and the one I stick with is Sesshomaru. The usual spelling of his name is Sesshoumaru; I have seen it the most times. Also I think it is the origional Japanese spelling (not sure) because of the use of ou rather than just o.

Another is Sesshomaru, much like the first but without the u. Usually I go by this in casual conversation such as IM. This is the way it is listed on the game, so it is a very correct spelling. I now think this rather than Sesshoumaru is used in the dubbed anime. I think this is the Americanized way of spelling it, because there is no u after the o. This is common. For instance, the correct spelling of Tokyo is really Toukyou.

The third spelling is Sessho-Maru. This is how it is referred to in the manga, but I have actually never heard someone refer to him this way. Still, it is very correct to as it is spelled this way in the actual manga, and there is nothing wrong with it.

The meanings of Sesshoumaru: Sesshoumaru has several meanings. One is The Killing Perfection, another is Destruction of Life, and another is Destruction of the Circle of Life. Mostly, the meanings deal with death. If you want to know a little more about this and get a better, more in-depth analysis than I can give, go to The Killing Perfection's Section on Sesshomaru's Name.

As was kindly contributed in the guestbook by a visitor:

"well, concerning about sesshoumaru's name.....you see i'm chinese and i have seen the anime inuyasha in both english and japanese[with chinese translations] and when it says sesshoumaru's name the subtitles said killing dog.......i understand that in the website u gave in his name section said it meant killing pill in chinese, itn't quite true you see since i think it really means killing dog though the writing of dog and pill does have the same writing to it. n e way thanks for reading my blab about sesshoumaru's name just htought i'd give my thinking. so later oh i mean labor." Thanks!!! I'm very greateful we now have yet another insight to our dear youkai's name. ((note, if you wish me to take your opinion down, you'll know who you are, please email me and I'll take it off right away!))

The Fluffy Thing... An On-Going Debate!

One of Sesshoumaru's most loved features is his boa, referred to by me as his fluffy. However... nobody's really sure what the heck it actually is.

The general opinion is that it is his tail. I do not agree but it is the general opinion. I have heard that Takahashi-sama said that it IS indeed his tail but I don't know. Now, it's not attached to him. In what I heard, Takahashi-sama said it was his tail but only turned into his tail in beast form and was otherwise a boa. I am not sure she said this though, I just heard she said so in an interview. Maybe it's true, maybe it's not.

I, as well as some others, do not think it is a tail. Some of the signers of the guestbook shares this opinion too. I think it cannot be a tail because in his dog form he still has it, at least I think so. It doesn't look the same, but it still appears to me he wears a boa. If you look around his shoulders you'll see what I mean. That's why I think it's not his tail.

Anyway if you have thoughts on this matter you may email me and if you wish I can post them.

I got some input from a visitor, Melanie: "I heard that his boa is from his father. In other words, it is his fathers fur." I think that's a very good theory! Maybe we will learn about it in InuYasha Versus Sesshoumaru! Man, I'm so psyched for this movie- I've been told you it's beautiful AND you see their father, so maybe we'll get some hints as to the origin of the fluffy! Anyway, thanks much, Melanie!
